Intermediate Sinking Line
« on: July 07, 2010, 07:05:17 AM »

I need to pick up an intermediate sinking line for my 9 weight rod.  Anyone got some favorites?

I don't really use them, much.  I picked up a Hardy Mach 2 Salmon for fishing the rivers in the winter time.  It's okay.  Got it off ebay for a reasonable price.  I hear alot of good things about wet cell clear from SA.  Supposedly Wulff is making a clear sink tip BTT now.  The floaters are excellent lines.

I figured you would use them often in the surf?   That was the main purpose I was buying them for

No.  I usually sight cast to fish, so there's minimal surf when I'm out.  It doesn't really get all that rough over/down here...

The primary use I have for a sinking intermediate line is for fishing flies in the surf.   If it is even a little rough the sinking line had better get down quick, otherwise the line and the fly winds up back on shore with you.

I use one almost exclusively except in very shallow water. I had a couple Sci ANglers types and now a triangle taper bermuda or what ever it's called.

AirFlo clear intermediate flyline ( #7,8,9,11 & 12 ! ) paired with their intermediate Polyleaders; otherwise Orvis has some that are as good.
