blues at SI
« on: March 14, 2010, 08:38:55 PM »

Got out for a bit down in Sebastian on Friday in between rain storms.  Blues were thick in the inlet.  Fished on the south side and was getting them on every cast with a gotcha plug.  I had the rocks to myself so I broke out the long rod.  They were small, only about 2-3 lbs, but they were a blast on a 6 wt.  Got a couple on a polar minnow before it got broken off, then switched to a clouser which really worked well. Hooked one and then saw 2 others next to him as he surfaced. Then he came in really easily and when I landed him found out why,  the other two had bitten his tail clean off.  I'm sure he made some bullshark a pleasant meal.

Unfortuately, I couldn't get any pics because of the conditions.  I got swamped twice with waves while standing on the rocks, was totally soaked but didn't care since I was catching fish.

That would have been a great amount of fun! Used to get into them like that in CT and RI...acres of 'em chasing the bait onto the beach!

I've always wanted to fish up in the northeast.  Those monster blues and huge stripers look like they would be awesome on the fly.

Sebastian has a great great snook fishing too!

We used to catch them weeks before the season started on the South rocks on an incoming tide.  We would fish at night about 80 yard East of the bridge on the rocks.  Cast to the middle and retrieve rather quickly.  Hold on tight!!
