Mid march mediocrity
« on: March 14, 2010, 05:08:05 PM »

I really am tired of wind! Both days, blowing like stink...stronger today than yesterday contrary to the forecast! In the ICW in St. Augustine, to my surprise the water was very discolored but a couple degrees warmer than it has been. Last year at this time, the water was nearly crystal clear. Started at half tide yesterday and didn't get a bump until 4 hours out. Then a flurry of activity...6 takes but only 1 smallish trout landed! Today I waited until 4 hours out to begin and it was a half an hour before getting bit. Very slow for the next 2 hours with 5 landed and several missed but all were 15" and under...all on chartruese and yellow clouser. Yesterday, being the first day after the front (wish I could have fished Thurs. and Fri. !!), I expected things to be slow but today was nearly as bad. Didn't even get to put a fish on my new reel!
Here are a couple pics of camera shy trout...

You're amazing!!   I had to go to Atlanta for some family business and the rivers on the way there and back really were high and muddy.   Also a guy I used to work with called me last week and offered me a job.  I am once more employed!!!  YIPEEE!!

That is EXCELLENT Mr. stevefishes!! Speaking from recent experience myself, being employed is sooo much better than being otherwise! Congrats! Uh, why am I amazing?

Glad to hear it!!

I am also impressed that Jerry fished in the 30mph winds over the weekend and even caught some fish!

It's really not much of a feat as the 2 necessary factors dovetail where I fish. First, am am lucky to have found this particular "hole" where, in the cooler weather, the trout seem to congregate, to a greater or lesser degree, on a daily basis at a certain point in the tide. Secondly, a west wind is at my back and facilitates casting, which is good because the spot actually requires a 60-70 ft cast to fish properly. And that's all there is to it. When the weather warms up, I'm SOL there. Gotta either get a canoe or find some new holes.
